Altia buys Swedish spirits maker

Linda Jones Published 24 January 2012

Altia, a Nordic-based alcoholic beverage company, has acquired Sweden-based spirits producer The Xanté Company and the Xanté spirits brand.

With the acquisition, Altia aims to strengthen its position in the Nordic liquor market and play an important role in its international portfolio development.

Xanté is a perfectly balanced blend of sweet Belgium pears and cognac from specially selected French distilleries. The liqueur is a blend of cognacs that are matured for four years in barrels made from French Limousine Oak.

Altia has purchased a portfolio of Swedish and Danish heritage spirits and wine brands and Renault Cognac brand in 2010.

Altia CEO Antti Pankakoski said the acquisition of the Xanté premium brand represents a perfect fit with the company's strategy by expanding its market presence in the Nordics and Baltics.

Xanté owner Jörgen Tilander said the company is looking forward to continuing working with the brand as the company will maintain the exclusive license to sell the brand in the US and Canada.
