Asahi to acquire several spirit brands from ASM Liquor

Published 08 August 2017

Asahi Premium Beverages (APB) has agreed to acquire several brands from Australian spirits company ASM Liquor.

Financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.

The brands that will be acquired include Vodka O and Tequila Blu brands, in all the markets that are presently being sold.

Canadian spiced whisky product Spicebox Whisky will also join the company’s portfolio.

Asahi will also acquire the VDKA 6100 brand for Australia, New Zealand and Japan, while ASM retains the brand for the US and other markets where it is presently available.

APB’s chief commercial officer Scott Hadley as saying: “These brands will give APB an important position within the full strength spirits category. This will mean we can offer our customers an even broader range of alcohol beverages.”

ASM Liquor was started in 2004 by Julian Moss and Simon Sibia. The idea behind developing the company, as per the co-founders was to create an impurity-free vodka. Thus, the brand Vodka O was developed, which is claimed to be very smooth and impurity-free vodka.

In its beginning days, the company sold its small batch vodka to local bars in Sydney and Kings Cross in Australia.

The company claims to have developed Vodka O in a mechanic garage and sold it to licensed liquor sellers in Sydney in the early days. Soon, demand for the brand grew and is now claimed to be the number 3 vodka brand in Australia.

ASM Liquor co-founder Julian Moss “When you’re passionate about what you do and never lose sight of your goals, anything is possible.”
