Gruppo Campari to sell Punch Barbieri liqueur to Distillerie Moccia for €4.45m

DBR Staff Writer Published 05 February 2013

Gruppo Campari, an Italy-based producer of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, has agreed to sell its Punch Barbieri liqueur brand to Distillerie Moccia of Ferrara, Italy for €4.45m.

Punch Barbieri was initially launched by the Barbieri Brothers of Padova in the 1960s. It was later acquired by Barbero1891 in the 1990s, before being finally purchased by Gruppo Campari in 2003.

Barbieri is a medium alcohol-content fruit liqueur that is served with boiling water or a spray of vapor. It is available in three versions - Mandarin, Orange and Rum - and its primary market is Italy.

The merchandizing of Punch Barbieri allows Campari to focus on main brands in its portfolio, while Distillerie Moccia continues to expand its business by acquiring local brands.

The deal is expected to close on 1 March 2013.
