Johnnie Walker launches new limited edition Blenders’ Batch whiskies

DBR Staff Writer Published 24 August 2017

Diageo’s Johnnie Walker brand is introducing three new experimental whiskies from its Blenders' Batch range.

The blends that are being launched include Johnnie Walker Blenders' Batch Wine Cask Blend, Johnnie Walker Blenders' Batch Rum Cask Finish and Johnnie Walker Blenders' Batch Espresso Roast.

Diageo says that the blends have been designed to form the foundation for high quality Scotch cocktails, while they can also be taken straight over ice.

The company claims that Johnnie Walker Blenders’ Batches are an outcome of experiments that have pushed boundaries on flavour. It has reminded that the iconic Scotch whisky, Johnnie Walker Black Label has been one such experiment more than a century ago.

The new blends are limited and are the result of a team of 12 blenders lead by Johnnie Walker’s Master Blender Jim Beveridge.

Johnnie Walker Master Blender Jim Beveridge said: "At Johnnie Walker, we know how to make exceptional Scotch. That was true when we first created Johnnie Walker Black Label over a hundred years ago and it is still true today. Our philosophy and our commitment to creating exceptional Scotch Whiskies is central to everything we do.

"Our blenders are given free rein to take inspiration from anything and everything around them when making whisky: experiences they've had, personal passions, sounds, and flavours.

“Their passion drives them to challenge the whisky-making status quo and to tap into other flavour cultures to create the best possible flavour combinations for all of our blends, every day."

On the other hand, Johnnie Walker blender Aimée Gibson was the lead developer of the brand’s Blenders’ Batch Wine Cask Blend.

Aimée said: "My goal at Johnnie Walker is to make whiskies that can be enjoyed by people with a range of taste preferences, especially by those who might previously have thought that whisky isn't for them.

“As blenders, we draw upon almost 200 years of whisky-making experience and take inspiration from flavour pioneers from around the world.

"Johnnie Walker Blenders' Batch Wine Cask Blend is light and fruity. It's perfect for enjoying in an after-work cocktail with friends or for savouring on its own during quieter moments."

As per the company, The World Class Bartender of the Year is a perfect environment to launch the new Blenders’ Batch whiskies and Cask Blend wines.

Johnnie Walker Blenders' Batch Wine Cask Blend will be available in select countries starting this September at a price of $29.99. Johnnie Walker Blenders' Batch Rum Cask Finish and Johnnie Walker Blenders' Batch Espresso Roast shall be available at some select bars from this October.
