Pernod Ricard plans for new distillery in Scotland
France-based Pernod Ricard plans to construct a new distillery in Scotland in 2013 provided Scotch whiskey demand surges.
Reportedly, demand for Scotch has been primarily strong in emerging markets, helping Pernod to register a 18% rise in sales in Asia in the first half of its trading year.
The company, which owns Chivas Brothers, is eying emerging markets to account for 50% growth in sales over the next few years.
Chivas Brothers chairman and chief executive Christian Porta said the group was also well-advanced in its plans to bring its Glen Keith distillery back into production in 2013 on the back of the continued robust performance of the sector, reported scotsman.com.
Glen Keith distillery will be producing six million liters of malt spirit, thereby increasing Chivas's malt whisky production capacity 10% to 15%.
Glen Keith was established in 1957 by Chivas Brothers and was closed in 1999 by owner Seagrams due to Asian financial crisis. It produces spirits like Chivas Regal, Glenisla and Craigduff.
